7. Are you certified organic?
• We were the first certified organic retail bakery in the country a
few years ago, however, we have since given back our certification after learning
how little it means. Many “non-organic” things happen in the organic
world and labeling ourselves as “certified” still says nothing
about our integrity. We prefer to keep an open and honest kitchen.
• But what do you use that is organic? Almost
everything, and if it is not certified, it comes from a small local farmer
who has organic farming practices but lacks the funds to certify. Our eggs,
milk, dairy, flour, sugar, oats, grains, fruits, nuts are all from certified
organic farms.
• Are your food colors organic? We have both organic
and non-organic food colors. If a customer asks for bright blue, black hot
pink or any color that does not happen in nature, they will get non-organic.
You need to specify what they are asking for on the order because there may
be an allergy we need to know about.

You need to specify when you are placing your order and we will oblige.
*update: we have found an organic certification company that takes itself
very seriously.
We have decided tyo trust in them and go about the recertification process.
We have also certified with the Green Restaurant Association.
8. Why did you name it “Bleeding Heart?”The name describes our take on business. It is our intent to set up a very liberal company that supports other liberal companies. That is why every product we buy is from a very specific farmer and every charity we work with is studied thoroughly before we do business together.
9. Are you currently hiring interns? We are not, thanks for asking!
